Take A Hike Market is more than just meat and cheese. It’s a fresh take on food outdoors — fuel fit for the mountains. At Take A Hike Market, we bring cooking back to its birthplace with campfire-ready meals that offer the perfect nourishment after a long day of exploring, without sacrificing flavour.
Take A Hike Market is unique in our dedication to all things food—handmade, locally and sustainably sourced, and developed right here in our own kitchen — paired with our belief that spending time in nature shouldn’t mean you compromise on dining.
Our food is for all to enjoy; whether seated in our cozy market cafe, curbing your hunger atop a mountain peak, prepping a fireside meal, or entertaining at home, your relationship with our food should always be the same: defying expectations.
Born in Sept-Îles, QC with access to incredible fresh seafood from his family fishing boats in Lameque, NB, Jonathan spent many breakfasts at his grandmother’s table enjoying scrambled eggs with lobster. Fuelled by his Quebecois and Acadian family recipes, Jonathan grew up watching his dad in the kitchen working with family recipes passed down through generations, some of which have be incorporated into the Take A Hike menu!
After earning his Red Seal, Jonathan spent many years in Montreal working in both fine dining and catering. Eventually Jonathan’s path led him to a job in Nunavut which is what really ignited his passion for production. Here, he was responsible for feeding 750 people four meals a day! At the beginning of the project everything was brought in pre-made. By the time he left, they were making everything from scratch which required a lot of production ingenuity.
Nunavut is also where he met his future foodie travel companion, life partner, and biggest fan, Amanda.
A first generation Canadian, Amanda grew up in Toronto and spent much time with family in France, England, and Spain. Since a young age, her dream has always been to open a restaurant in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Bit by the travel bug, Amanda adventured around Canada right after university, but Western Canada and the Canadian Rockies always held the biggest place in her heart. Having lived and worked in Lake Louise, Alberta in the early 2000’s she has loved the Bow Valley for quite some time.
After years of working and travelling around Canada, Amanda decided to settle back in Toronto to earn her PMP designation and validate her extreme organizational skills. People, processes, and organization are her professional passions. Shortly afterwards, the traveller in her had Amanda taking on a job in Nunavut, which is where she and Jonathan met, and what brought her back to the Bow Valley.
Together, Jonathan and Amanda have been passionately travelling and dining their way around the world since 2015. Take A Hike Market is a combination of traditions, exploration, adventure, and family.
At Take A Hike, it’s important for us to celebrate small businesses and support local business owners when and where we can. Of course, our market cheese is specially sourced from the Canadian mecca for all things cheese… But, while we love supporting our Quebecois side it was also a top priority to support Albertans as well as Bow Valley business owners and entrepreneurs — people who are equally passionate about their craft.
This store is heaven! The chef, the services are excellent and bilingual! The products are fresh, very good and original!
Great little spot with very tasty food and snacks! The Montreal smoked meat sandwich is world class and a must try!
This is the best place in Canmore to go and create special memories over exceptional food. You can tell this place had so much care, attention and love put into it to make it so special.
